How much sugar is in your soft drinks?
Its #FitnessTuesday guys! Let's reprogram our minds & our Palates to say NO to sugar ! #Julukmentality
Here's why :
Sweet poison: many soft drinks are loaded with sugar!
"The term “soft drink” refers to any beverage with added sugar or other sweetener, and includes fizzy drinks/ soda" - Harvard School of Public Health
Researchers have found that sugary drinks significantly increase the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Do you know how much sugar you're drinking?
A major study by Cambridge University has found that cutting out just one sugary soft drink a day, such as orange squash or a can of fizz, could reduce the risk of developing diabetes by 25 per cent.
• Sweet poison:
why sugar is ruining our health
Many people do not realize how much sugar is in soft drinks, including those which are marketed as "healthy", such as fruit juice or flavored waters.
Research last year found that many smoothies and juices aimed at children contained up to seven teaspoons of sugar per 200ml, which is one teaspoon more than "full fat" Coke. Lol
NHS guidelines say that added sugars shouldn’t make up more than 10 per cent of people's calorie intake - about 70g for men and 50g for women a day.
• Did banning sugar turn my kids into sweet little angels?
New draft guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) however state that a reduction to below five per cent of total energy intake would have “additional benefits”.
Below, we take a look at how much sugar a range of drinks on the market, from squashes to ginger beer, contain per 100ml.
