Why Your Body deserves an award !
We all watched with baited breath as Leonardo DiCaprio FINALLY bagged his #Oscar, how our very own #Emtee bagged multiple #MetroAwards & now we have #Saftas coming up too. So, in this High Spirit of Award Giving , let's award your body too shall we !
Here are reasons WHY your body deserves an Award :
If a starfish is in danger, it can shed one of its limbs and grow another one. Similarly, if a lizard's tail gets caught somewhere, it can rebuild another one. This happens through a process called regeneration, and most living organisms exhibit it in some form or the other. When it comes to human beings, we cannot grow back an arm or a leg if it gets chopped off, but our body does have natural mechanisms that help us protect ourselves. Through the process of regeneration, we can fight infections, slow down ageing, fix broken proteins and enzymes and kill the cancerous cells that grow in our bodies every day.
Natural immunity
Our bodies are constantly attacked by bacteria, viruses and parasites and we are simultaneously exposed to millions of chemicals, toxins and other pollutants. The human body has an amazing ability to protect itself from all of these agents, because if it didn't, we would all be sick all the time. Instead, we only fall sick once in a while, when our immunity is low.
These are some of the factors that are essential for immunity:
•Healthy diet
•Adequate sleep
•Sufficient daily activity
•Healthy environment (sunlight, fresh air, clean water, etc.)Components of immunity
These are some of the components of the immune system:
•Skin:
The largest organ in the human body, our skin is a barrier that prevents most infectious agents from invading the body.
•Mucus:
The openings of the body that are not protected by skin, like the mouth, nose, eyes, etc. have mucus membranes. These membranes secrete chemicals like lysozyme and C reactive protein that can kill invading agents.
•Cilia:
Cilia are tiny hair that line the inside of the respiratory system. They push out the dirt and pollutants that enter our system every time we breathe. Cilia often work together with mucus, since mucus traps these pollutants and then the cilia brush them out of our systems.
•Acid:
Our stomachs, and a few of our other organs, contain acid, in order to kill any germs that enter our bodies either through our food or through other sources.
•White blood cells:
White blood cells are our main line of defence. There are two types of white blood cells: phagocytes and killer cells. Phagocytes engulf and destroy invading cells while the killer cells destroy the body's own cells that have already been infected by the invading cells.
•Inflammation:
When a specific part of our body is injured, it becomes red and swollen. This inflammation helps bring the site of the injury to the attention of the immune system, so that it can begin the repair and healing process.
•Antibodies:
Antibodies recognise invading cells and bind themselves to them so that the phagocytes can kill them. Initially there are only a few of each type of antibody in our system, but when a certain type of attacker is recognised, more of the antibodies that deal with that particular attacker are produced in order to fight them. After the attack, some of those antibodies remain in your system forever, so that if that particular agent attacks you again then your body can fight it.
•T-cells:
These cells help the antibodies, by using a complex chemical signalling system to tell them what to do and which types of antibodies to produce in order to kill the infection.
Wow ! Doesn't this info just make you LOVE your body even more ?!
Do you now agree that your body deserves an AWARD ?!?!
